- ACAS web site at www.acas.org.uk which has a useful a to z of HR issues as well as outline policies and links to the DTI website or call the Helpline on 0845 474747.
- Business Link www.businesslink.gov.uk and click on Employing People. There is also www.businesslink4london.com where, regardless of whether or not you are based in London, you can register on the website free and access fact sheets on a wide range of HR issues.
- Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) - whilst most of the CIPD website is for members you will find some useful information that can be accessed free. Visit www.cipd.co.uk
- Commission for Equality & Human Rights - took over from the CRE, DRC and EOC in October 2007. Visit their website at www.cehr.org.uk
- Charity Trainers Network - a free network run by the UK Workforce Hub on behalf of the NCVO it is open to anyone who has responsibility for training within a voluntary organisation. The main aim is to share information and good practice and one of the ways they do this is by running four events a year with speakers and presentations on topical issues. www.ukworkforcehub.org.uk
- The Cranfield Trust offers free consultancy projects to smaller charities involved with disability and social exclusion and uses a register of over 600 volunteers from the commercial sector who act as free consultants. - Health & Safety Executive (HSE) assists the H&S Commission to ensure that risks to people's health and safety from work activities are properly controlled. The Executive provides information to employers about complying with the law. It has a large number of free publications, including a publication to assist in drafting a H&S policy. - HRNet is a free specialist internet based HR advice service, run by the Cranfield Trust (see above) which allows member charities to post questions to a panel of Trust volunteers with HR knowledge. To join e mail hrnet@cranfieldtrust.org or telephone 01794 830338.
- National Association of Councils for Voluntary Services - visit www.nacvs.org.uk which will detail your local CVS and also has model policies and procedures.
- National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) currently has several free services accessed via www.askncvo.org.uk/hr
- Ask NCVO that offers online best practice resource. Information is updated regularly and includes employment fact sheets
- NCVOs HRBank which contains example HR documents provided by other organisations within the sector
